According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, over the last 30 years over 9000 Indigenous women went missing or were murdered in the United States. Gift of Fear centers on Mili, a Native American foster youth who moves to a new group home. When her friend goes missing, Mili decides to go looking for her. Gift of Fear is based on true incidents that have occurred within the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s #MMIW crisis, affecting Native women and their communities in North America and Canada.
Free admission, with donations gratefully accepted for the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
This screening is part of the ScripTease series of events around the September 11 reading of The Absence, a new work by Neva Hutchinson with Native Americans Clint McKay (Dry Creek Pomo, Wappo, Wintun) and Jack Kohler (Hupa, Yurok, Karuk). Please see the event page for details.
NOTE: Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. COVID vaccinations and N95 face masks are recommended but no longer required to see performances at the Raven. See the homepage for information on measures the Raven has implemented to improve air filtration and ventilation inside the theater.
