“As I was growing up, my mother and grandmother, both Jewish, told me about the two German officers billeted in their home at the beginning of the German Occupation of Paris in 1940. My grandmother and one of the officers developed a friendship. The idea of them transcending the artificial boundaries set by war and engaging with each other simply as people always fascinated me; I envisioned their connection as something unique and beautiful. The love story I wrote is a work of fiction, inspired by true events.”

A Raven original. Two German officers are billeted at the home of a Jewish family on the outskirts of Paris in 1940. One officer is drawn to the woman of the house, and she to him in this moving, star-crossed love story that explores the human struggles in a world at war.
*The Germans Upstairs will be presented with the audience seated on the Raven stage to provide a more intimate performance environment.
